Jalia Designs Pet Boutique
Sue Boyd is the creator and owner of hand-crafted pet products company, Jalia Designs Pet Boutique based in Billingham.
She originally started her company in 2018 as a handbag business called Jalia Designs. However, she soon found inspiration to take the business in a different direction, Sue describes Over the previous summer I had been out walking with my friend and her dogs and it was hot and we didnt have a coat on and found it difficult to carry keys, phones and treats. I went to an event and found some dog fabric and decided to try and make a dog walking bag. I attended a craft market and took some of my bags. I met a lady who bought one of my bags and she introduced me to dog agility weekends and I attended the events and my bags sold very well.
After this success, Sue began making many different types of products for pets from top quality fabrics and fittings with comfort and safety central to all her designs.

Sue has attended a lot of events held by BIPC on topics including starting a business and social media marketing.
Sue said Paul has introduced me to local businesses who work with new or young businesses as I was trying to get funding. Paul has given me lots of important information regarding starting a business. The information that I have obtained has given me more insight into running a business, time management and what I need to put in place to help my business grow.
Future plans
Future plans
Sue has many ambitions for her business. She would like to improve her website and is looking at producing a subscription box for a regular income. Sue also hopes to get her products in locations including dog groomers, vets and pet stores.
She hopes that long term these plans will allow her to reduce her days at her full time job and allow her to spend more time on the business.
